VOTERS – ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS

RESIDENT ELECTORS:
Persons qualifying as Resident Electors, who are not currently on the List of Electors may register at the time of voting by completing a resident registration form. In order to be registered as a Resident Elector a person must meet all of the following requirements on the day of registration:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • Canadian citizen;
  • you must have resided in British Columbia in accordance with Section 67 of the Local Government Act for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration;
  • you must have resided in the Village of Slocan in which the vote is taking place in accordance with Section 67 of the Local Government Act for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration;
  • you must not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in the election or be otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT ELECTORS:
Persons qualifying as a Non-Resident Property Elector, who are not currently on the List of Electors may register at the time of voting by completing a resident registration form. In order to be registered as a Non-Resident Property Elector a person must meet all of the following requirements on the day of registration:

  • not be entitled to register as a resident elector;
  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • Canadian citizen;
  • you must have resided in British Columbia in accordance with Section 67 of the Local Government Act for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration;
  • you must be a registered owner of the real property used for qualification at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration;
  • if more than one individual is a registered owner of the real property then only one individual is entitled to vote with the written consent of a majority of all other registered owners that are on the title including the person requesting registration;
  • you must not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in the election or be otherwise disqualified by law.

LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS:

Beginning September 4th, 2018 until the close of general voting for the election on October 20, 2018, a copy of the list of registered electors will, upon signature, be available for public inspection at Slocan Village Office during regular office hours. Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.

OBJECTION TO REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR:

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14th, 2018.  An objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the Village of Slocan and can only be made on the basis that the person whose name appears has died or is not qualified to be registered as an elector of the Village of Slocan.
